Services

There are different types and levels of editing. I specialize in the following:

• Line Editing: This type of editing can occur before or during the copyediting phase. I focus on your use of language and how you communicate your story.  Do your words flow? Are they precise? Do they convey the right tone and imagery?

• Copyediting: There are three levels—light, medium, and heavy

Light: I will correct misspellings, grammar, punctuation, incorrect usage, and check for proper sequencing (such as alphabetical order in lists) and ensure consistency throughout.

Medium: In addition to all the tasks of a  light edit, I will revise any grammar and punctuation issues, provide suggestions for wordy or unclear passages, query any questionable facts, and fix faulty organization and gaps in logic.

Heavy: This includes all the tasks of a light and medium edit, plus eliminating wordiness, cliches, and any inappropriate jargon. In addition, I smooth or add transitions, rewrite wordy or convoluted passages, move sentences to improve readability, and verify and revise any facts that are incorrect.

• Proofreading: This is the final step in the editing process and may include any and all of the following: searching for discrepancies, comparing the latest version to an earlier version, checking for any layout issues, querying and correcting errors and inconsistencies, as well as verifying links. I proofread fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, short story collections, articles, letters, reports, theses, and websites.

Writing/Rewriting: I write (and rewrite) articles and reports.
